According to Luther’s Small Catechism, confirmation is the rite by which a baptized person renews his or her baptismal vow, publicly confesses his/her faith, and is received into membership by the congregation. Confirmation is a time of preparation for baptized Christians to publicly profess that they do indeed believe these things promised for them in their baptism. It is a passing of the torch, if you will, from parental responsibility to personal responsibility for one’s own Christian faith.

| Confirmation Class |
Confirmation classes are a place where the young people of our
congregation learn more about what it means to be a Lutheran as they explore what they believe.
Through study and discussion, youth are challenged to think about what their personal faith means to them and how they can live their lives in a faithful manner.
|
Through this two year course, students will:
- Learn the Books of the Bible and study some general Bible knowledge, emphasizing important themes in the scriptures.
- Study Luther’s Small Catechism (Includes the Lord’s Prayer, The Ten Commandments, the Apostles’ Creed, Holy Communion, and Holy Baptism.)
- Learn some basic history and theology of the Lutheran Church.
- Explore their own personal gifts for ministry in preparation for becoming active adult members of the congregation.
|
Goals
- To help each student experience a sense of “community", that is, what it means to belong to the Christian family we call the church;
- To enhance and encourage a trusting faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior;
- To gain knowledge concerning the Bible, the Christian faith, Lutheran doctrine, the Church and the world;
- To maintain or develop a healthy attitude towards the Church.

About the Classes
Confirmation classes are held for students in grades 7 and 8. Through the confirmation process, young people will work with the Pastor and others.
Parents are asked to play an active role with their children by participating in worship services with their family, discussing the topics covered in confirmation at home, and by setting an example for the youth.
Confirmation is intended to be a time and an opportunity for the strengthening of each young Christian in his/her calling to live faithfully within the fellowship of the Church.
